Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in helping the homeless, poor, and working poor in our community.  Volunteering with Metro Ministries is a wonderful way to fulfill God's call to help the less fortunate.

Volunteer Opportunities include:

Clothing Donation Sorting - Weekly
  • Pick one afternoon between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
  • Have volunteers take donations to the Gathering Place.
  • Using Inventory Lists* for Men, Women and Children, have volunteers pull these items and hang, bag, or tag with size.
  • Remainder donations will be re-bagged and delivered by volunteers to Goodwill.

Pill Smashing and Disposal – Monthly or Quarterly – noon time

  • Out of date prescription medications must be disposed of routinely.
  • A one hour event would appeal to those who only have a lunch hour to volunteer
  • Provide sack lunch
  • Provide smashing tools, kitty litter and instructions
  • Volunteers drop off litter remains at dump or site designated by David Tapscott.

Scouting is Cool – weekly – on site or local school
Our kiddos would love to have cub and brownie scout experiences.  We need help in connecting them to a troop and helping them with t-shirts, etc.

Just Because Parties – monthly
Birthdays are not the only reasons to celebrate in Rainbow House and Rustic House.
Different themes and new learning opportunities through play for kids and adults alike.

Loaves and Fishes Meal Service – daily
We need 2 – 3 volunteers for lunch and dinner every day
Current food handler’s license required

Gabbard Memorial Health Clinic
We need doctors and nurses to help with weekly clinics
***We need doctors and only ask for a monthly commitment of 2 hours***

*****Special Project*****
Mentors for Family Dining Room
Help needy families come together at meal time. This project is currently under development, but essentially seeks to have a separate dining room for families to sit together while sharing their evening meal. We will need volunteers to help facilitate and provide light cleaning after the meal.

What have you seen today that inspires you to volunteer?  A new idea?  One of the above? For more information about Volunteering at Corpus Christi Metro Ministries please call George, David, or Tyrese at (361) 887-0151.

The City/County Health Department requires those in food service to have a food handler's permit card.  Volunteers at Loaves & Fishes must have a current food handler's permit card. You may call the City/County Health Department for class time and information.  They are located at 1702 Horne Road.  Their phone number is 826-7200.

Thanks for all you do to help the hungry, homeless and working poor!
